'WHAT LEAF-FRINGED LEGEND…?' A CUP BY THE SOTADES PAINTER IN LONDON.
- Authors
Griffiths, Alan
- Abstract
The article presents information about the three elegant white-ground kylikes potted around the middle of the fifth century by painter Sotades, that are displayed at the British Museum in London, England. According to the author, the three cups have been designed with a pre-conceived plan. Only some 40 percent of the cups' surface is extant. The author thinks that the cups were manufactured in Greece but they have not been made for daily use. The cups showcase a reedbed with tall bullrushes on the right.
