- Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the clinical significance of fractional exhaled nitric oxide(Fe NO) in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(AECOPD), and to evaluate the correlation between Fe NO and FEV1%. Methods: 30 patients with AECOPD were selected as the experience group from August 2013 to February 2014 treated in the department of respiration in Shanghai the ninth People’s Hospital. These patients suffered from asthma and tumor and autoimmune diseases was excluded as the same as smoking. 18 old healthy people were selected as the control group. The Fe NO and FEV1% were examined before the treatment as soon as the CAT scale was completed to discriminate severity of AECOPD. The Fe NO and FEV1% were examined after treatment again. Results: The Fe NO and FEV1% was different between control group and experience group before the treatment(P<0.01). After the treatment, the change of Fe NO in experience group was not different compared with the control group(P>0.05), but the change of FEV1% was different(P<0.01). The changes in experience group were different after the treatment(P<0.05). Before the treatment there is a negative correlation between Fe NO and FEV1%(γ=-0.098,P=0.042). After the treatment there is not any correlation between Fe NO and FEV1%(γ=-0.248,P=0.784). Conclusions: Fe NO can be considered as a marker of airway inflammation, and can be used in forecasting the prognosis in patients with AECOPD.
