- Abstract
The article discusses the Americanization of French fashion plates in the nineteenth century women's periodicals "Godey's Lady's Book" and "Peterson's Magazine." The author highlights the importance of the textual descriptions accompanying these fashion plates. Emphasis is given to 19th century views on the roles of women, the editorial process, and anti-Catholicism.
