The article discusses the author's views about the political aspects of public punishments in America as of 2018, and it mentions procedural justice, fairness in the way that citizens are treated by law enforcement officials, and the ability to strike a balance between criminal justice system-based proportionality and transparency. The public shaming of criminal suspects (perps) is examined, along with U.S. criminal justice policy and the punitive attitudes of the members of the public.
