- Abstract
After looking at the birth and architectural development of ancient theater culture, the general situation of the theater architecture in the Lycian Region is introduced. The concepts of prohedria, bicellium, pulvinar, locus, tribinalia in ancient theaters are explained and presented with examples. The position of the privileged seating areas in theater architecture, their workmanship and the meanings of the inscriptions on the theater with periodically changing theater plays in Lycian theaters are examined in terms of social status within the city and the region. The relationship of the seats with the periodically changing theater canopy systems has been evaluated. In this study, views concerning social status reflected in Lycian theaters and the Rhodiapolis Theater are presented through evaluating the privileged seating areas, and in this way, a projection is reflected on the ancient theater culture and architecture, fashioned within the framework of the concepts of belief and power.
