- Title
THE ROLE OF THE JD IN CRIMINAL JUSTICE EDUCATION.
- Authors
Mayes, James P.
- Abstract
The Juris Doctor academic or "JD academic" has an essential role in criminal justice education both in undergraduate and graduate programs. To appreciate this role one must have a basic understanding of the history and the learning objectives of legal education. There are five major arguments, however, which support the contention that the JD academic has no or a limited role in criminal justice education. However, an argument can be made that those academicians who hold Juris Doctorate degrees are qualified to teach jurisprudence, legal research, and legal practice in criminal justice studies. This article examines the role of legal education on criminal justice studies on both the undergraduate and graduate level.
