Rural -- urban mobility in southwestern Nigeria: implications for HIV/AIDS transmission from urban to rural communities.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article presents a description of how the patterns of mobility between a rural community and an urban centre hold the potential for transmission of HIV/AIDS with special reference to the rural community Igbo-Ora and Lagos, an urban centre, in Nigeria. The practice of male extra-marital sexual relationships during the pregnancy and lactational periods of the wives, may influence the spread of a sexually transmitted disease in rural communities. Some respondents opined that some of the travelers actually practice self-restraint, holding on until they get back to Igbo-Ora and their usual sexual partner, no matter what temptation comes their way in Lagos.
