INCLUDING GOD IN THE CONVERSATION: THE INFLUENCE OF RELIGIOUS BELIEFS ON THE PROBLEM-ORGANIZED SYSTEM.
- Authors
Kudlac, Karen E.
- Abstract
While current psychoanalytic theory opposes the integration of religious beliefs into therapy. the growth of pastoral counseling and chaplaincy programs shows that the inclusion of religious beliefs in the conversation of therapy is an effective approach. A majority of adults see God as a real and personal influence in their lives. The therapist should be sensitive to the client's language. especially to metaphors: and if the therapist determines through language that the client sees God as a member of the problem-organized system. then God should be included in the conversation so that the client perceives the therapist as aware of and sensitive to the clients total worldview.
