- Abstract
The article addresses the issues and policy implications of major land-use changes. It discusses urbanization in terms of the challenges and opportunities it presents to the farmers. The changes and degradation of the ecosystems are presented along with the environmental problems brought about by urban development. Private conservation efforts and public land use planning and regulation to address market failures are explored. Also explained is the incentive-based approach for direct land use control.
