- Abstract
Regenerative vehicles are working even on less busy lines. On such lines, when the train density is so low that regeneration is liable to be ineffective and notably where the gradient section is long, the brake performance will be poor and the brake shoes will be heavily abraded. Therefore, resistors are mounted on the vehicles, and if the regenerated energy fails to be fully consumed, the residue is consumed at the resistors. It is desirable not to mount resistors on the vehicle and avoid increased vehicle weight. Thus, whether to mount or not is a matter of judgment. Therefore, we studied the effective coefficient of regenerative energy which provides a criterion for judgment. We looked for an estimation formula of effective coefficient of regenerative energy, and showed that when varying the number of trains, the coefficient will not change much. We propose a technique of manual estimation. A simple program based on that formula confirms that the calculation can be precise enough to be practically employed. © 1999 Scripta Technica, Electr Eng Jpn, 129(4): 105–116, 1999
