- Abstract
Objective: to identify the health risks of rural workers in the extraction of carnauba straw. Methodology: Descriptive research, of a case study, developed in Cariré - Ceará, from May 2016 to June 2017, through semi-structured interview and free observation. The analysis of the information was based on Minayo and the protocol of the International Labor Organization. Results: Carnauba straw collectors during their production process face situations that make them vulnerable and expose them to physical, chemical, biological, ergonomic and organizational risks. Conclusions: The study points out the need for health promotion actions, on the importance of appropriate use of personal protective equipment to minimize risks, and the consequences that may result of its lack.
