- Abstract
This article presents the results of a study on patients newly diagnosed with coronary artery disease (CAD) to see how many of them might have colorectal neoplasm which has similar risk factors. Colon cancer is the second most reported cancer in the world and there were 1 million new cases in 2002 alone. It is estimated that 1 in 20 people will get the disease. The authors of this study, in a previous paper, reported a strong association between the two diseases. This study found that those with CAD had a greater incidence of colorectal neoplasm. The association between the colonic lesions and CAD was even stronger in patients with a history of smoking.
