- Abstract
The article explores the negotiation process between Cameroon and Nigeria over the resource-rich Bakassi Peninsula located along the gulf of Guinea. It emphasizes that negotiation has helped create a workable solution for both countries despite issues relating to their 1.600-kilometer land boundary. It notes that legacy of both the imperialist colonial rule and the neo-colonial regimes in Africa is among the factors that contributed to the conflict. It also mentions that the Cameroonian government forwarded the case the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the ICJ invited representatives from both countries for the negotiation process.
