- Abstract
Epilepsy is a chronic disease which is defined by a set of neurological disorders that leaves a high predisposition in the brain to recurrent seizures. While no cure for this brain disorder, however, are used for treatment drugs that inhibit the biochemical mechanisms called anticonvulsants. This make important the need to use animal models to study this disease, as well as, the development and discovery of new drugs, they provide the basics for understanding the mechanisms of disease and are suitable for studying mechanisms of induction of seizures. Within these models stands the model of chemically induced by pentylenetetrazole, which, of its low cost and easy handling is widely used in drug discover y and development of anticonvulsants.
