- Abstract
In 2003, the studies carried out by our Ministry under Transformation of Health Program to achieve "The Quality and Accreditation of Qualified Healthcare" ensured an important awareness in both national and institutional level and paved the way for the successful studies especially for institution level. "Quality System in Health" developed in order to improve the quality of health care in our country shaped by examination of international studies, review of country specific priorities, relevant to expert opinion and field studies and advanced day by day to increase the quality of institutions. "Service Quality Standards (SQS)" are found at the center of "Quality System in Health". It aims to be both safe and reliable in healthcare, therefore gives priority to patient and employee safety. In Healthcare Management, a compenent of this standard, 3 medical laboratories which are Biochemistry, Microbiology and Pathology Laboratories are discussed. Each of these laboratories includes five categories. - Preanalytical Stage - Analytical Stage - Postanalytical Stage - Laboratory Management - Laboratory Safety Biochemistry Laboratory Service, which consists of 20 standards and 50 assessment criteria, aims to ensure that laboratories are safe and trustable. From now on, "Service Quality Standards (SQS)" include public, private and university hospitals offering health care and require implementation of these standards within a specific framework. In parallel it play a major role in improving the quality of laboratory services with a complete coverage of laboratory services. As you now; Health Quality and Accreditation Department of the General Directorate of Health Service is renamed to clarify the responsibilities and job description following the restructuring of the Ministry of Health. General Directorate of Health Service, located at an equal distance from all the public, private and university institutions, outlines standards and rules, controls and guides. Our goal is, providing a systematic accreditation in all medical laboratories and institutions by "Quality System in Health" which is a country-specific, transparent and open to development work. Medical laboratories play a dominant role in diagnoses of diseases. Because laboratory services concern to patient safety either directly or indirectly and test results appear as a parameter to effect the desicion of the phsycian. In addition, laboratories incorporate some of the futures for the safety of working personnel. For all these reasons, laboratory services will be prioritized in the national accreditation system like giving priority to laboratories in studies. Laboratory accreditation is designed according to the'' Service Quality Standards''. There are nearly 3000 laboratories in our country. Therefore it will be seen that increasing health services qualification and quality throughout the country by introducing a country-specific system is a more realistic and feasable approache. "Service Quality Standards" will be the mean piece of the accreditation system which will be establish in our country. There will be significant progress in quality of health by the managers and employees targeted to the same field. SQS will shape the quality of health in the future.
