- Abstract
Short laminated beams of Populus deltoides and Ailanthus excelsa were studied for their behaviour under bending. Five layered laminated beams were prepared using finger jointed and joint-free laminates. The inherent higher bending strength of P. deltoides was reflected in the laminated beams also irrespective of presence or absence of joints in individual laminates. The use of finger jointed laminates resulted in significantly higher MOE in the case of P. deltoides. Presence of finger joints did not alter the MOR of beams with either species. The study revealed the superiority of P. deltoides in making stronger laminated beams compared to A. excelsa.
