- Abstract
Despite the growth in research on hybrid organizations--particularly, on organizations combining a prosocial and commercial-profit identity--research on hybridity antecedents remains rare. This study responds to this opportunity by developing and testing a model of investment decision-making that favors hybridity, using both firm-level and individual-level data, collected via a conjoint study. Analysis of 3,388 investment evaluations collected from 154 investors shows that investor evaluation of hybrid venture attributes in investment proposals (the importance of cause targeted by the venture, the interdependence of the venture's revenue-generating and cause-related activity, and the venture investment value) can be predicted by the extent of the individual's social or commercial orientation, even when controlling for firm-level attributes.
