The article discusses the generation of a Methanococcus jannaschii aminoacyl-transfer RNA-synthase (aaRS) that specifically charges an amber codon-suppressing Methanococcus transfer RNA with sulfotyrosine. Sulfotyrosine was incorporated into proteins at the sits of amber codons when this transfer RNA-aaRS pair was expressed in Escherichia coli.
