- Abstract
The article informs that fragment-based methods for identifying lead compounds are a promising alternative to traditional drug discovery approaches. As the pharmaceutical industry continues to struggle to improve productivity, many are questioning all aspects of the drug discovery process. One issue, perhaps the heart of the problem, is that of efficiently discovering high-quality drug leads. This article informs about introduction of a fragment-based discovery method, which referred to as scaffold-based drug design, and demonstrate its utility in the rapid identification of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase inhibitors.
