- Abstract
Although cognitive impairment is more common in older adults, younger adults can also have cognitive impairment. Staff working in busy hospitals may not always pick up the signs of cognitive impairment in younger people. They may treat younger adults who are cognitively impaired in the same way as adults who have capacity. This is not always appropriate and can result in cognitively impaired adults receiving substandard care.
