The article discusses the condition of a 52-year-old Caucasian male who reported an approximate one-year history of change in a longstanding scalp lesion. The patient underwent initial biopsy of the violaceous tumor which reported findings consistent with metastatic melanoma. It is concluded that the patient should advise his family members to undergo formal full-skin examination by a dermatologist because of a known higher incidence of familial melanoma.
