A literary criticism of the book "The Marrow of Tradition" by Charles W. Chesnutt is presented. The book highlights the 1898 race riot and portrays race relationships coinciding with social violence and revolution. Chesnutt highlighted the relation between environment and ethnicity. The book focuses on American realism, withdrawal of political rights, and the failure of Civil War Reconstruction.
