- Abstract
The article discusses the portrayals of Christians and Christianity in Jewish Halachic literature during the early nineteenth century. Topics include the notion that Christians were idolaters, differences in practices in relation to Torah, and criticism of Christianity by Orthodox Jews in relation to the Reform Judaism movement. Figures addressed include Rabbi Yehezkel Landau, Rabbi Jacob Emden, and Rabbi Eleazar Fleckeles. It is said that internal tensions between Orthodox Jews and Neolog and Reform Jews led to more stringent rules.
