- Abstract
The article focuses on the history of the 18th century children's book "The History of Little Goody Two Shoes; Otherwise Called, Mrs. Margery Two-Shoes," first published in London, England by John Newbery in 1765. The author argues that the book is the first piece of Children's fiction written in English, and reports the authorship has been variously attributed to Oliver Goldsmith, Griffith Jones, or Giles Jones. Also presented is an overview of the story's plot, a discussion of its historical references, and a general discussion of the children's books published by Newbery.
