- Authors
Paciga, Kathleen A.; Koss, Melanie D.
- Abstract
The article discusses a study which addresses threads of self-esteem, silences, invisibility, and otherness realized across contemporary Newbery texts. It is noted that cultural language is involved in the characters' positionalities and in various power structures. It is noted that wealth and privilege are predominant statements across the texts, carrying an undercurrent of how race and ethnicity play significant intersectional roles in social class.
