- Authors
Clarke, Matthew
- Abstract
The author examines student teachers' beliefs about language and globalization in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). According to the author, language education policies are extremely important in the Arabian Gulf region because of issues regarding the preservation of local cultures. The author discusses the UAE's dualistic language policy, which uses English as the language of business and modern life and Arabic as the language of religion and tradition. The author also discusses English language education of female teachers at the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT) and the sociopolitical aspects of English language education.
