The article focuses in a study conducted on a whole-tree model to analyze the link between leaf gas exchange, sugar utilization and soil water uptake and xylem and phloem fluxes. According to the study, the photosynthesis rate is maximized by the plant within the constraints imposed by meteorological conditions, soil water availability and phloem's sugar transport.
