The article discusses the play "The Dutches of Malfi," by English playwright John Webster and the play "Second Shepherds' Play," by Wakefield-Towneley. The author focuses on the punishment of the main character Mak incurred for stealing the sheep. The author queries why he was merely thrown onto a canvas, rather than suffer a more serious punishment.
