- Abstract
Introduction: Despite the multiple campaigns carried out by health institutions and other instances of civil society, it has not been possible for the sexually active population to use it as a measure to prevent Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), including HIV / AIDS, resistance to condom use according to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2000) is due to social and cultural beliefs. Objective: To determine the sexual behavior and use of condoms by a population of university students. Methods: Quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study with non-probabilistic convenience sampling with 687 participants. The confidential information instrument was applied with 8 items. Results: 414 women participated, 270 men and 3 others; 24.7% answered that they always use a condom, 29.2% sometimes and 46.1% answered that they never use a condom. Conclusions: The behavior of the participants shows that the majority are sexually active, however a high percentage do not use a condom
