The Fittest City in America.
- Authors
Silk, Michael L.; Andrews, David L.
- Abstract
The article presents reflections and insights related to the authors' viewpoint on the fittest cities in America. The authors states that sport's inherent cultural resonance and elevated economic importance during the past two decades contributed to the physical, symbolic, and commercial transformation of many North American cities. They comment that the influence of the market-oriented demand obtained from ascendant neoliberal capitalist order and urban landscapes resulted to a transformed environment and implementation authoritarian social and punitive penal policies, and developed tentative growth strategies and urban development directives.
