- Abstract
An abnormal hydrodynamic wedge-platform thrust slider bearing formed by boundary slippage is proposed. In this bearing, the platform exists in the inlet zone, the divergent surface separation wedge exists in the outlet zone, and the lubricating film thickness in the inlet zone is lower than that in the outlet zone. The boundary slippage occurs on the stationary contact surface in the inlet zone, while on the other bearing surfaces there occurs no boundary slippage. An analysis is presented for the hydrodynamic pressure, carried load and friction coefficient of this bearing, based on the contact-fluid interfacial shear strength model. It was found out that when the inclined angle θ of the slope surface of the bearing is low enough, the bearing can be formed and it has a pronounced load-carrying capacity; While for θ larger than a critical value such as 0.01°, this bearing can not be formed. The performances of this bearing are widely investigated for varying operational parameter values.
