- Abstract
The article presents information about the House-Tree-Person (HTP) test, which can be used as a measure of change in dialyzed schizophrenic patients. Owing to its reputed sensitivity to emotional disturbance and other factors, this technique was chosen for schizophrenic patients. Although, the accuracy of the test cannot approach that of a standard IQ measure, the complex quantitative scoring approach on the test offer a relatively objective standard for the assessment of change in patients' drawings. These drawings are basically graphic characteristics, which are considered to be the indicators of mental health. Post-dialysis drawings of schizophrenic patients, as measured by the HTP quantitative scoring method, are shown to be markedly improved at a high level of statistical significance. The result of this art evaluation technique support the continued use of hemodialysis treatment for individuals diagnosed as chronic schizophrenic. The article also includes information about subsequent researches that are required to assess the drawings of schizophrenic patients.
