Linking Whānau with Support for Learning: A Whānau approach to Care Provision.

- Abstract
The idea of structuring learning support within whānau groupings is not new. For some time now, teachers have considered using the philosophy of whānau in a variety of educational settings, such as teacher education programs, schools, and early childhood centres (Barnes, 1994; New Zealand Taskforce on Whānau Centred Initiatives, 2010). But understanding how the concept of whānau encourages learning is not always understood as a theoretical basis as well as it is in practice. Oftentimes, the intent is present, but the effect is not. The social system of whānau is sometimes evident and sometimes tacit, sometimes realized and sometimes less understood. If the principles of whānau are clearly identified and understood, then the logical relationship between theory and practice can also be readily valued.
