- Abstract
The number of immunocompromised children has increased rapidly over last decades since many malignant and immune-mediated diseases can be efficiently treated with medications inducing immunosuppression. These patients are vulnerable to several infections against which can be prevented by vaccines. Vaccination is important in immune deficiency but vaccination of immunocompromised patients is challenging both regarding efficacy and safety. Vaccination rates in children with immunosupression are not high because of insufficient knowledge of physicians about efficiency, safety and contraindications of vaccines. Herewith we review what is recommended and known about vaccine-preventable or vaccine-derived diseases being spread to immunodeficient children and relative risks for a child with severe immunodeficiency.
