Discusses the use of alefacept, a human fusion protein, in the treatment of psoriasis. Emergence of biologic agents that target pathogenic T cells directly or target pathogenic cytokines, resulting in favorable efficacy and improved safety in comparison with systemic therapies; Evaluation of alefacept in clinical trials; Association of alefacept with dose-related improvements in psoriasis area severity index (PASI).
