- Abstract
ALTHOUGH it is well known that antidiuretic hormone (ADH) increases the permeability of amphibian urinary bladders to water and small polar non-electrolytes such as urea and acetamide1,2, there is much uncertainty about the mechanisms involved. To gain further insight into the interaction of ADH with this membrane, we have studied the permeation of lipophilic molecules in the presence and absence of the hormone. It has long been recognised that permeability measurements may offer unique clues about the nature of biological membranes3,4.
