- Abstract
Pregnant women considered at risk for coronavirus disease (COVID-19), the virus can cause some pregnancy complications such as miscarriages, intrauterine growth restrictions and even lead to a premature birth. The objective of this study was to characterize the newborns of mothers with a hypothesis or confirmed case of COVID 19 who were admitted to a neonatal isolation unit. The research was carried out through the analysis of the records of neonates, of both genders, admitted to the COVID unit between 2020 and 2021, regardless of their length of stay in the unit and their clinical situation. Most mothers were from Fortaleza, gestational age ranged between 28 and 41 weeks, the presence of neonatal infection was not relevant compared to maternal swab and cesarean delivery was the most practiced. Regarding the possible consequences generated for the newborn due to maternal COVID 19, we can conclude that COVID 19 does not have relevant repercussions for the newborns in the sample, as well as we cannot identify the presence of vertical transmission from mother to baby within the sample.
