- Authors
Abu-Lughod, Reem A.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the aftermath of 1948 Arab Israeli War which was followed by the establishment of Israel as an independent Jewish state in Palestine. It states that the establishment of an independent Jewish state in Palestine was considered by non-Jewish Arab Palestinians as Nakba or catastrophe. It mentions that the 1917 Balfour Declaration intended to create an independent Jewish state in Palestine as it provided security for the Jewish community and lack of political and national stability for the Palestinians. It adds the 1948 war offered Palestinians with the challenge of facing social displacement, inside and outside their own land. Moreover, the creation of barrier by the State of Israel in 2002 resulted to further separation of Palestinians and Israelis.
