- Abstract
Introduction: Pott Puffy Tumor is a subperiosteal abscess of the frontal bone with osteomyelitis. It's a rare complication of acute frontal sinusitis, more common in adolescents, due to the increase of vascularization in diploic circulation of frontal sinus, allowing rapid spread of the infection. Precocious treatment are essential to reduce morbidity and mortality. Objectives: To report a case of Pott Puffy Tumor in a patient treated at the otorhinolaryngology service of Hospital Santa Marcelina in São Paulo and discuss its correct diagnosis and treatment. Resumed report: Male patient, 15, who evolved with bulging in the left frontal region with the presence of hyperemia and local erythema. When performing the nasofibrolaryngoscopy, the presence of drainage of purulent secretion in left frontal recess towards the middle and left inferior meatus. Computed tomography showed hypodense material occupying some ethmoid cells and frontal sinus on the left with an insufflative aspect with bone remodeling, bone discontinuity in the papyraceous blade on the left with an increase in the volume of extra choanal soft tissues of the left orbit and glabella. Treatment was started with empiric intravenous antibiotic therapy, associated with high-flow nasal lavage. Subsequently, surgery was performed to drain the frontal subcutaneous abscess with a left supraciliary approach and trepanation of the frontal sinus, with resolution of the patient's condition., that led the recovery of the patient's condition. Conclusion: Knowledge of Pott Puffy Tumor as a clinical entity is fundamental for the correct diagnosis and treatment, providing a better prognosis for the patient.
