- Abstract
The Tomas Moro by Herrera is a singular portrait. It is difficult to classify from the point of view of genre: exemplary biography, panegyric, memorabile. Moralization and ideas deriving about Institutio Principis Christiani are manifold. This article traces and explores the characteristic elements of the portrait. It pays attention to the use of Henry VIII as a counter-figure for the development of the portrait. It outlines the significance of virtue, in varied and different situations. Finally, the article addresses the reasons for the composition and publication of this work.
