- Abstract
Field trials were conducted at the Tobacco Research Institute, Prilep, R. Macedonia in 2006 and 2007. The objective of the study was to evaluate herbicide efficacy in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.). Herbicide selectivity and influence on tobacco yield were evaluated, as well. The weed population in the both years was consisted mainly of annual summer grasses and broadleaves weeds. The weediness in the both years was relatively high. Weed density on the untreated control plots was 199.5 plants per m² in 2006 and 128.5 plants per m² in 2007. The most dominant weeds in both years were Echinochloa-crus galli, Digitaria sanguinalis and Amaranthus retroflexus. Efficacy of herbicides was ranged from 83.9% (napropamide) to 96.3% (metolachlor + metobromuron) in 2006, and 78.0% (napropamide) to 92.9% (metolachlor + metobromuron) in 2007, respectively. Lower herbicide efficacy in 2007 was due to dryer soil conditions after herbicide application. All applied herbicides showed high selectivity to tobacco, no visual injured were determined by any rates in either year. Tobacco yield was markedly affected by herbicide efficacy in both years.
