- Abstract
The article discusses a study which investigated the perceived association between arterial hyperoxia and increased mortality following resuscitation from cardiac arrest. The multicenter cohort study used the Project IMPACT critical care database of intensive care units at 120 U.S. hospitals between 2001 and 2005. The researchers found that 1,156 patients had hyperoxia, 3,999 had hypoxia, and 1,171 had normoxia out of 6,326 patients. It was also concluded that arterial hyperoxia was independently associated with increased in-hospital mortality.
