- Abstract
The article presents discussion of the Jamestown colony, the early 17th century exploratory venture by Great Britain to settle in North America. Introductory details are given providing a contextual picture of Jamestown as an informed and experimental colony rather than the mismanaged failure that it is often portrayed to be. The various applications and adaptation of social and economic systems attempted by different contemporary nations by the British at Jamestown are discussed in depth. Subjects explored in this manner include foodways, political authority structures, and the social influence of humanist thought.
