- Abstract
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disorder which accounts for the most frequent cause of inflammation based hair loss among dermatological outpatient attendances. The impact of cosmetic problem due to alopecia areata includes prominent effects on the patient's quality of life and consequent development of psychological impairments in some of the cases. This review summarizes the essentials of pathogenesis, clinical properties, principles of management options and emphasizes the characteristic findings for differential diagnosis and future treatment concerns.
