- Abstract
The deficit of healthy relationship skills have been identified as a risk factor for teen dating violence and a promising target for prevention efforts. Within a Transtheoretical Model framework, we developed and validated the URICA-Healthy Relationship Skills (URICA-HRS), a measure of stage of readiness for using healthy relationship skills. In all, 943 students completed the URICAHRS and other measures designed to identify relationship stages. Findings provide preliminary evidence of validity of the URICA-HRS. For example, males were significantly more likely than females to be in the precontemplation stage, and participants in the early stages reported perpetrating more dating violence in the last year. Additional research is required to further assess the validity of the URICA-HRS.
