- Abstract
Implementing Romanian legislation harmonized with the EU regulations in assuring farm animal welfare during transportation represents a major point in animal protection and for securing consumer protection, by creating the most appropriate conditions to prevent animal diseases during transportation. Assessment of complying legal stipulations and shipment conditions such as balanced duration, alternation of transportation breaks with travel periods, ensuring appropriate surfaces during the transportation, feeding and watering during the breaks, or if the case, during the transportation itself, securing the animals during the transportation in appropriate circumstances, to avoid potential accidents or discomfort represent major objectives in creating a comfort zone during the shipment and defining animal welfare. Priority should be given to aspects that can emerge in the process of implementing the legislation, that are not present in the existing legal provisions.
