- Abstract
In order to learn the intact resistance property of shear thickened gel and find an alternative simplified testing method, the composite materials of shear-thickened gel and warp knitted spacer fabric were prepared by using dipping and filling methods. Then the impact resistance properties were evaluated by bursting strength test and drop hammer impact test. The results show that the bursting strength, elongation and energy of the samples prepared by impregnation method increase with the increase of the ratio of shear-thickened gel, and the best result is obtained by diluting the samples with 1:9 of ethanol and gel mass. The energy absorption of the two groups of composites prepared by dipping and filling methods increase by 51.85% and 76.54% respectively compared with the original samples in the low velocity impact testing. The impact resistance of the warp-knitted spacer fabrics with the addition of shear thickening gel is greatly improved. Therefore, the evaluation of the impact resistance is practicable by means of the bursting strength testing method instead of the low velocity impact testing.
