- Authors
Irr, Caren
- Abstract
An essay is presented on expatriate fiction in the 21st century. According to the author, expatriate fiction is evolving to introduce new generic conventions and to resist the consumerist psychology of previous expatriate narratives. The books discussed include "The Russian Debutante's Handbook" by Gary Shteyngart, "Netherland" by Joseph O'Neill, and "Nowhere Man" by Aleksandar Hemon. Global mobility, inequality, and domestic realism are also discussed.
