- Abstract
This article discusses the development and implementation of a data acquisition system for a specific ventilator model, the GE Datex-Ohmeda Aestiva/5 7900, using an open-source Python project. The authors explain that while modern ventilators offer integration with monitoring systems, their specific monitor and ventilator did not communicate, making ventilator data unavailable through the monitor. To address this issue, the authors developed a serial protocol and used a Raspberry PI computer to create an automated ventilator logging device. They also built a Python program to collect and parse data from the ventilator, which was then sent to a database. The article provides instructions and a link to the code for researchers interested in implementing this system.
