- Title
Religious Television and Pious Authority in Pakistan.
- Abstract
Kazi surmises that these programs distribute modes of reasoning and interpretation far more broadly than that brokered by PTV's previously dyadic relationship between the state and formal sources of religious authority. At the turn of the twenty-first century, private television channels proliferated in Pakistan, driven by liberalization reforms that allowed new stations to broadcast alongside the state-run Pakistan Television Corporation (PTV). Kazi's ethnography unfolds in the Pakistani city of Karachi, where many religious talk shows are produced.
